Alex is a Principal Consultant in the Education Executive Search Practice.
She specialises in recruiting senior Higher Education appointments with experience that spans the sector, including specialist institutions, modern universities, new-build institutions, and the Russell Group. She works across the academic and professional functions with senior level executive search experience in Chair, Senior Academic, Senior Professional Services, and Executive Leadership appointments.
Prior to joining Berwick Partners Alex worked for a leading specialist executive search firm in the global Higher Education sector. Before she started her career in recruitment, Alex instructed Business English courses at Merck Serono and Universidad Tecnológica Nacional in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I am enormously privileged to work with people and organisations that are making a meaningful, powerful and positive impact on society. Every organisation and role we work on exists to create a better, stronger society, and I am deeply cognisant of the importance of our work, and honoured to play a small role in it.
Alex graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Anthropology and Italian language. After travelling, she returned to the UK where she began her recruitment career, quickly finding a niche space in the Education sector.
We were seeking an unusual post in HE (Higher Education); a combination of operation and strategic spanning professional services and academic. Alex took the time to understand the brief in detail. She asked relevant and important questions about our draft job description and brought her extensive experience of the sector to the discussions. When she took the job to market, we were impressed with the range and high quality of the candidates; and the shortlisted candidates all expressed very favourably how smoothly the process had gone and how well informed they were throughout. I would be delighted to have the opportunity to work with Alex again in future.

Starting a new role during the COVID-19 crisis is daunting no matter how you look at it – both for the employer and employee. Across sectors we’ve seen organisations put offers on hold and delay start dates, but at the senior levels where you have a higher density of business-critical roles it’s less advisable to do that.
Alex Albone of Berwick Partners’ Education practice was delighted to contribute valuable, learning content to the annual Universities HR Conference in Manchester last week. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Transforming Culture: Challenging Times’ and looked at the important role HR professionals in the university community play in shaping organisational cultures that respond to current and anticipated sector changes.
