Why Berwick Partners was the right career move for me
We spoke to Caitlin Tickell, who joined Berwick Partners’ Government practice in August last year.
Caitlin has had a great start to her Berwick career, working with a breadth of clients including the Department for Transport to appoint its Chief Analyst, and Luton Rising to appoint its inaugural Chair and two Non-Executive Board Members.
We discussed why Berwick made sense as a career move, how her first nine months here have confirmed it was the right decision for her and asked a few questions about her experience so far.
We’re part of the Odgers Berndtson group; what benefits have you noticed since joining?
The benefits of being part of the wider Odgers Berndtson Group as well as Berwick Partners are tangible; my counterparts in the business have been incredibly welcoming and we’ve worked together to deepen relationships across the sector.
The breadth of experience within Berwick, and the wider Group, means we can leverage connections across the business to genuinely support our clients. We are able to find the broadest possible pool of high calibre talent and, if necessary, guide candidates through the transition into new sectors. Having worked in the public sector throughout my career, it’s fascinating to be able to learn from colleagues with expertise in our commercial practices – such as manufacturing and financial and legal services – as well as partnering with functional leaders across finance, HR, IT and procurement.
Has anything particularly impressed you about the Berwick way of doing things?
After nine months at Berwick Partners, I can absolutely say that the decision to join the firm was the right one. The leadership team genuinely cares about supporting people to settle in and become involved in the organisation. There is a real opportunity to become a market leader within your practice area and build your own relationships with clients.
From very early on in my Berwick career I’ve been given the support to hold events with key leaders in my sector, and develop my own marketing materials, with the help of the internal Events & Marketing team.
Finally, can you give us an insight into Berwick life outside the day job?
Within the firm itself, there are so many initiatives to support and get involved with, enabling you to meet colleagues you wouldn’t usually work with day-to-day. I’m going to be taking on the Three Peaks Challenge in September to raise money for our charity partner, the British Heart Foundation. I have also joined the LGBTQ+ Allies Network and Berwick Advisory Forum – both providing the opportunity to help shape the employee experience within Berwick and the wider business. As well as formal groups, there are great social events, a cross-firm Consultants Collective, the annual Unlimited Festival and many other opportunities to join in.
