The Company 

Porvair Plc is a UK based multi-national manufacturing group specialising in filtration, laboratory, and environmental technologies, organised into three divisions: Laboratory, Metal-Melt, and Aerospace & Industrial.  

Part of its Laboratory Division, Porvair Sciences are leaders in the design, development & manufacture of porous plastic materials, and microplate technologies for the medical, biotechnology and life science industries, and are used in diagnostics, sample preparation and chromatography applications. Based in Wrexham, North Wales, the business has 80 employees, annual sales of c.£17m, and it is highly profitable.  

The Role 

With the upcoming retirement of its Managing Director, Porvair approached us to identify his successor.  

The Search 

Our task was to find an established general manager, from a life sciences consumables, materials or equipment manufacturing organisation, within commutable distance of Wrexham. In addition, the successful candidate had to be used to a high level of autonomy and independence, as well as being commercially led, and financially astute.   

Through our confidential process Porvair were able to appoint a proven GM, with a broad range of commercial, operations and supply chain experience – with a relevant technical product background in materials processing. The successful candidate lives within a short distance of the site, which has also made a significantly positive impact on his travel requirements and work-life balance.
