Director of People, Volunteering & Organisational Development (flexible working options available), Princess Alice Hospice, Location: Esher, Surrey, Salary: c£90,000 + excellent benefits

About Us

We all need a purpose and want to make a difference in life. At Princess Alice Hospice, you’d have that opportunity. We’re rated outstanding by the CQC and provide specialist palliative care and support to a community of more than a million people living in the London Boroughs of Kingston and Richmond, and across a large part of Surrey. However, we don’t take our success for granted and are constantly challenging ourselves to do better.

As we look ahead with our 2030 plans, our vision remains the same - that everyone in our communities will have the best care and support before, during and after death. In these times of uncertainty and change, our plans empower us to adapt and evolve while staying true to our long-term vision - meeting the ever-growing demand for our expertise and compassion. Our I-CARE values – Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence guide everything we do, and we’d expect that you’d embrace and live up to them.

About the Role

We’re looking for a strategic and visionary Director of People, Volunteering & Organisational Development who will be responsible for shaping and delivering an ambitious and compassionate people strategy that fosters inclusion, excellence, and a high-performing culture. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll work closely with the Chief Executive, Board, Committees, cross-organisational colleagues, key stakeholders, and strategic partners. Your collaborative approach and strategic insight will make a meaningful and measurable impact and difference on the overall leadership and success of the Hospice.

About You
  • Proven senior human resources leadership experience, ideally in a healthcare, charity, or public sector setting
  • Significant experience of leading organisations, senior managers and teams through employee relations, organisational change, developing cultures and embedding values
  • Experience of strategy development and implementation
  • Strong understanding of volunteer management and engagement
  • Experience of successfully embedding workplace EDI initiatives
  • Effective interpersonal skills: persuasiveness, diplomacy, tact and ability to listen effectively
  • Awareness of, and commitment to the Vision and Values of the Hospice
