Opportunities

Non-Executive Director x 2, Populo Homes, Stratford, London, Competitive salary / Approx. 15 hours/month | Three-year term

Populo Homes, part of the Populo Living Group, is a registered social housing provider with a clear social purpose: to deliver and manage genuinely affordable homes for the residents of Newham. With 251 homes rooted in real communities, Populo Homes is committed not only to managing places and buildings but also to creating opportunities and improving lives.

As a subsidiary of Populo Living (Newham Council’s wholly owned housing company), Populo Homes operates independently with its own dedicated board. We are now seeking two new Non-Executive Directors to join our board and contribute to the strategic leadership and governance of the organisation.

The Role

This is a rewarding opportunity to help shape the future of affordable housing in Newham. As a Non-Executive Director, you will:

  • Support the board in setting strategic direction and ensuring strong governance.
  • Scrutinise performance and monitor risk, ensuring financial viability and regulatory compliance.
  • Champion best practice in housing management and governance.
  • Act as an ambassador for Populo Homes, promoting its values and work to external audiences.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including our sole shareholder, the London Borough of Newham.

You will be joining a values-led organisation that places residents at the heart of everything it does. Meetings are held quarterly in person at our Stratford offices, with an annual strategy day and occasional additional engagement.

The Person

We are looking for collaborative and insightful board members who bring:

  • Experience serving on boards of housing associations or similar organisations.
  • A strong understanding of the regulatory framework for registered providers, including the role of the Regulator of Social Housing.
  • A background in housing, governance, or community development.
  • Financial acumen and the ability to interpret budgets and drive sustainable growth.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • A commitment to social impact and community engagement.
  • Prior experience as a Non-Executive Director is desirable, and knowledge of local government would be advantageous.

If you are passionate about housing, community development, and good governance, and if you are ready to bring your experience and insight to a purpose-driven organisation, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Apply now and help us deliver great homes, with great service, in great neighbourhoods.
