Director - International School of Brussels

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious educator to lead one of Europe’s foremost not- for-profit international schools.

The Board of Trustees of the International School of Brussels (ISB) invites applications from visionary and results-driven educational leaders for the role of Director, commencing in August 2026. This appointment follows six years of exemplary leadership by James MacDonald.

As one of the oldest international schools in Europe, ISB is guided by a powerful Mission: ‘everyone included, everyone challenged, everyone successful’. Founded in 1951, ISB is a premier institution offering an international education to approximately 1,350 students from 63 nationalities, spanning Preschool to Grade 12.

The school has excellent facilities on an expansive 40-acre campus, set in the Forêt de Soignes, on the edge of Brussels. It is easily accessible to families living in Brussels and the surrounding region.

Entry to ISB is open to all. From Preschool to Grade 10, students follow ISB’s unique curriculum. In Grades 11 and 12, all students study for the U.S. High School Diploma, and choose between the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, Advanced Placement or BTEC curricular pathways. Students graduate from ISB to a variety of tertiary education institutions that are a good fit with their individual profiles, including to highly selective university destinations worldwide. Currently, the UK is the most popular university destination for ISB graduates.

The school is focused on delivering exceptional education, as articulated in the Strategic Plan, adopted by the Board of Trustees in 2025. Ambitious for every ISB student, the Strategic Plan aims to further improve the quality and impact of ISB’s education, through a focus on students’ individual needs, a rich curriculum, and meaningful, future-focused opportunities.

The Board is seeking a Director eager to contribute to ISB’s success and to drive ISB to new heights.

The successful candidate will embrace ISB’s Mission, have a familiarity with the IB, and experience of working in a multicultural setting. The candidate will be able to demonstrate through evidence the ability to:

●     lead a high-performing school in a competitive marketplace

●     effect academic improvement

●     drive change - where needed - in a large and complex organisation

●     deliver strategic projects

●     communicate successfully with stakeholders
