Senior Design Manager – Jellycat – London (hybrid) - £60k-£70k

Reports to: Brand & Activation Director

Job Purpose

The role of the Senior Design Manager is to support the Global Brand & Activation Director with the overall direction and management of all day-to-day creative assets and projects briefed by global teams. They will assume the responsibility of line managing our talented in-house design team and additional freelance designers.

They will be naturally creative and innovative and be able to translate ideas into successful projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within the Jellycat brand guidelines.

Being able to create designs of their own as well as guiding others will be a requirement for this role, however, the main focus is support and the successful management of the design team as well as reporting to key stakeholders internally and externally.

 

The Candidate Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Brand & Activation Director to understand strategic objectives and determine creative solutions that answer each brief.
  • Collaborate and communicate with global teams and other stakeholders to deliver relevant design solutions.
  • Take responsibility for creative strategies to meet the relevant objectives communicated by the Brand & Activation Director.
  • Confidently pitch ideas and present relevant creative vision clearly to senior creatives, as well as communicating in the same manner to other members of the creative team.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop existing brand team members, and continue to grow the team with an additional headcount.
  • Prepare detailed project proposals, including costings and timelines.
  • Ensure all projects stay on schedule from proposal to delivery.
  • Communicate out of scope or amendments to deliverables.
  • Being a key point of contact for internal customers.
  •  Coordinate and host regular team meetings, collate relevant information to share with the Brand Activation Director.
  • Assume responsibility for project quality, ensuring they meet Jellycat Brand guidelines/pillars.
  •  Creating innovative ideas and designs.
  • Developing and working to budget.

 

Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Behaviours
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic or Product Design, or a related field.
  • Preferably 5+ years working as a hands-on designer across a mix of 3D, 2D, and Installation design projects.
  •  Direct management, or supervisory experience of a design team (ideally 5+ years) including leadership, team building, and delegation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting, including synthesising abstract ideas into concrete design implications.
  • Demonstrated experience in design & project delivery.
  • Accustomed to working collaboratively as part of cross-functional teams.
  • A track record of delivering successful projects on time and within budget.
  • Empowering and collaborative leadership style.
  • Focussed with the ability to ‘cut through the noise’, prioritise and make sound and rapid commercial decisions.
  •  Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • A solid grasp of art history, design history, and global affairs.
  • A humble approach to design, and receptive to constructive design feedback - the ability to approach with a solutions-focused attitude.
  • Highly competent in Adobe Creative Suite at an expert level (particularly Illustrator and Photoshop) – 3D software is desirable.
