Shaftesbury is the disability charity built on a 180-year track record of ground-breaking care and community work – enabling each child, young person and adult to live a life that adds up for them.
Through the actions of their staff and volunteers, they enable people with disabilities to thrive, working to put the things in place that all add up to living well. Having a very meaningful and direct impact on the lives of over 1,000 children and adults each day they provide a wide range of care, education, vocation and rehabilitation services - Helping people become more confident and independent and to grow community connections that improve wellbeing.
With an eye to the future, helping to guide and refine the strategic direction this charity takes needs a board of experienced senior individuals who are comfortable discussing the issues in the collaborate atmosphere of the main board as well as ideally contributing to more detailed committee work.
To that end Shaftesbury would welcome expressions of interest, from those who might enjoy shaping the continued good this charity does, partly by contributing expertise in the following areas-
§ Safeguarding
§ Education sector, preferably including special educational needs
§ Finance with audit and accounting experience
§ Personal knowledge and experience of disability
§ Social Services or local authority commission, from the commissioner’s perspective.
