Director of Programmes, Theirworld, Salary: Starting from £90,000 + exceptional benefits including 4 day working week, Location: London

Founded 22 years ago, Theirworld has grown to become a leading global children’s charity committed to the best start in life for children and young people by ending the education crisis and unleashing the potential of the next generation.

We campaign for greater investment in inclusive skills for the next generation because it’s been proven that a quality education provides the best route out of poverty, inequality and instability.

As Theirworld embarks on its five-year strategy and grows as an organisation, we are seeking an individual with a problem-solving mindset and ability to take initiative and “think outside the box” to lead a team of dedicated professionals to oversee all aspects of our projects, advocacy, campaigns, and research.

Based in London, the primary focus of the position will be to grow a thriving and impactful project portfolio with a talented group of project managers and consultants. Our education projects are delivered through implementing organisations and currently focus on Africa, the Middle East, Europe and South Asia. Last year, we administered about 35 projects reaching our localisation target of supporting nearly 90% community-led organisations.

The Director of Programmes will have a strategic understanding of the organisation’s needs, inspire team members, and possess the ability to influence stakeholders to support your vision. You will be skilled at overseeing high quality and engaging public-facing projects and campaigns across a broad geographical scope.

The Candidate
  • A problem-solving mindset and ability to take initiative and think outside the box.
  • A track record of relevant experience in government, non-profit, charity or relevant sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team to create positive results.
  • Excellent written English and verbal communication skills.
  • Gravitas to confidently engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Determined, enthusiastic and proactive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Ability to work productively and positively with people at all levels and from all backgrounds.
  • Resilient, a self-starter and a team player.
  • Direct relevant experience in education (or international development) and a strong passion and interest in these issues.
  • A collaborative, hands-on attitude and team-player approach.
