The Charity Commission seeks a Director of Legal and Accountancy Services. This is an exciting and unique senior role for someone to provide inspirational leadership to our professionals in the Legal and Accountancy teams and to the Charity Commission as a whole.
As an independent regulator, the Charity Commission works to enable the charity sector to be its best, but also to prevent, challenge and pursue when things go wrong, upholding and enforcing charity law.
The role offers the opportunity to influence the regulatory landscape and charity law in England and Wales, upholding our global reputation for fair, independent and balanced regulation. You will be closely involved in developing Parliamentary bills, secondary legislation and Charity Commission guidance to develop the law and policy affecting charities and charity regulation in a creative and proportionate and innovative way.
The role offers the opportunity to make a difference every day to a sector that is vital for the UK, our people, economy, environment, health, animal welfare and democracy. This is a key influencing and ambassadorial role, representing the Commission effectively with UK Government Ministers, the Attorney General and their Office, international regulators and other bodies, the Charity Law Association, and other high profile external stakeholder groups, including major charities.
As Director of Legal and Accountancy Services, you will be personally responsible for overseeing high profile, and complex legal cases and legal policy issues, giving advice to the Chief Executive, Board and Board Committees on the most difficult and sensitive legal issues.
We are seeking an inspirational and experienced leader with a strong expertise in either charity law, public, or regulatory and practice law who is interested in taking on this impactful and challenging opportunity, leading a high-performing team. The Director will seek to foster innovation within the Commission and apply an appropriate risk-based approach that achieves positive outcomes and drives change to charity law to ensure it remains fit for purpose in a changing world.
