People Director - Bright Futures Care - Greater Manchester - £Competitive

Established in 2005, Bright Futures Care are a leading provider of specialist education and care to people with autism, learning disabilities and other complex needs in the North-West of England. The company delivers person-centred and community-based residential care and education to a growing number of children and adults with acute complex needs in specialist, high-quality settings.

With a Head Office in Lymm, Cheshire they employ c550 people and operate 22 schemes across the Cheshire, Merseyside and Manchester regions. This includes two independent special schools (one a college for continuing education), six care homes for children and 15 care homes for adults. People supported and school pupils are between the ages of 4 and 32 years old.

Bright Futures is going through a number of changes to ensure it is set up for growth whilst maintaining operational excellence. As such, a number of leadership changes have happened over recent months. This includes appointing a People Director, who will join the leadership team and act as a coach, sounding board and trusted advisor to help them to make the best decisions for people and for the business.  

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the CEO, the People Director’s key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver the People Strategy, leading and managing a wide range of activities, including recruitment, retention, organisation design, workforce planning, talent management, ER and performance and reward processes.
  • Design and deliver an EVP and associated Recruitment & Retention Strategy that ensures Bright Futures Care competes effectively for and retains talent at all levels.
  • Recommend to the Board an annual People Plan and, following approval, ensure its achievement.
  • Deliver a career model that drives retention and engagement and ensures that Bright Futures is recognised as an employer of choice by existing and future staff.
  • Develop a programme of learning and development attuned to the realities of growing a people-based business. 
  • Create a working environment that is inclusive, rewards fairly and transparently and has the technology systems in place to deliver simple, compliant people-related administration.

The Individual

Bright Futures Care are seeking a well-rounded HR professional who:

  • Is passionate about HR and commercially astute.
  • Has experience of the scale and complexity associated with organic growth.
  • Can get stuck in and can navigate between the operational and strategic parts of the role. 
  • Loves what they do and why they do it.
  • Is a visible leader, who enjoys spending time in the business engaging with colleagues, teams and the people supported.
  • Has the ability to communicate effectively, with nuance, to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Writes reports that are compelling, inspiring with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
