Chief Executive, Child Bereavement UK, Hybrid - working from home and Head Office, Loudwater, Buckinghamshire , £100,000 per annum + excellent benefits

Child Bereavement UK helps families to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. We also provide training to professionals, equipping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved families. Our central ambition, which is core to everything we do as a charity, is to ensure that all grieving families can access the support they need free of charge. This is provided via our bereavement services team who operate nationwide both in person and remotely.

Our current Chief Executive, Ann Chalmers, is standing down after twenty years in the role and we are now seeking the very best candidate to take the charity forward in the long term. Our new Chief Executive will have an important role in continuing to raise the profile of the charity in advancing public awareness of the impact of child bereavement and the issues facing bereaved families. Additionally, relationships with our partners and stakeholders will be essential to continue to cultivate and we continue to be fortunate in the support given to the charity by our Royal Patron HRH The Prince of Wales.

Our new CEO will be taking over the charity at a critical time in our history. Child Bereavement UK is the leading trusted authority in the United Kingdom recognised for excellence and innovation, and our new Chief Executive will lead the next very exciting chapter in the history of Child Bereavement UK.

The Candidate
  • Demonstrable experience of effective leadership, strategic and organisational development skills, with a track record of building a culture of high performance, teamwork and ambition
  • Ability to develop and implement strategy effectively, with experience of managing budgets and maintaining the financial viability of an organisation
  • Emotionally intelligent with outstanding people skills with the ability to inspire staff, donors, supporters and those affected by bereavement
  • Excellent communication and ambassadorial skills with the gravitas to deal with a wide range of stakeholders. In particular, demonstrate a natural ability to be highly influential and responsive to senior-level and high-profile individuals in articulating an inspiring and compelling case for support of Child Bereavement UK
  • Ability to quickly absorb the issues surrounding bereavement and to credibly represent the work of the Charity in a variety of settings
  • Experience of working effectively with highly committed Boards and Committees
