The Institute of Business Ethics (IBE), established in 1986, is a purpose-driven highly respected non-profit (charity) organisation committed to promoting the highest standards of ethical leadership within business and society.

 

The IBE serves as a pivotal partner for organisations that prioritise ethics, respect, and integrity as foundational principles in their business. The IBE’s mission is to uphold and enhance the long-term reputation of business through strategic ethical practices.

We are recruiting a new Chief Executive Officer as the incumbent is leaving us in September 2024 after 4 remarkable years in post. This is a critical role representing a committed, incredibly diverse and engaged group of businesses, whom we term, Supporters. Whether your interest sits with business ethics, improving our society, or working closely with some of the businesses with greatest potential to do good in the UK there will be members within our community who will engage and impact on your way of thinking.

As the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for:
  • Working with an engaged Board of Trustees to shape the overall strategy of IBE.
  • Ensure that new ideas and initiatives which are in line with the strategic direction of the IBE are integrated to best effect.
  • Promote both the role of Business Ethics and the benefits of the application of corporate good behaviours through representing IBE externally, including supporter base and relevant partners for IBE.
  • Represent the IBE in the media, to existing and potential new supporters in the business community.
  • Develop of a diversified income generation strategy which secures the investment needed to deliver on our ambitions.
  • Encourage friends of the IBE to volunteer and support the activities of the charity and ensure staff are open to their perspectives and views.
  • Provide leadership to the IBE team in support of overall policy priorities and work programmes.
To qualify as the Chief Executive Officer, you must have:
  • Strong communication skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • A strong listening, collaboration, and relationship-building orientation and capability.
  • Team leadership and management, and organisational administration capability along with a logical approach to planning and process.
  • Financial competency & understanding, ideally with experience of owning and managing a P&L.
  • Experience in influencing, including at the most senior levels of business, and at senior levels in other organisations.
  • An appreciation of marketing and communications tools such as media engagement, above and below the line marketing which ensure that the reputation and objectives of the IBE are amplified.
  • A commercial mindset. 
  • An understanding, interest, and appreciation of matters of business ethics.
