About QLM

QLM Technology are a UK-based technology start-up founded in 2017 who have developed a security camera device that uses lidar technology to measure greenhouse gas emissions. They are currently scaling production of their devices and looking to grow their internal software team to support them.

Your Role

This role is for a Principal Software Engineer who will report to the Head of Software and work alongside a small team including Senior Software Engineers and a QA Lead. The Principal Software Engineer will collaborate closely with the software team, in-house R&D team, and external contractors. You can choose to work remotely or on a hybrid basis, spending 3-4 days per month at one of QLM's locations.

The Principal Software Engineer will focus on C++ software development and firmware for the lidar camera. This will involve working with existing code developed by external contractors, debugging issues and implementing fixes as the cameras are manufactured and deployed. Additionally, as QLM’s product matures you will have an opportunity to engineer and implement new software features and enhancements.

Relevant Experience and Skills

We are seeking experienced software engineers with a proven track record in developing products using C++. You will have confidence designing, developing, and debugging application code, ideally with experience working on real-time or mission-critical software.

We are looking for candidates with attention to detail and excellent communication skills, with a good understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle. You will have gained commercial experience in an industrial sector, including but not limited to automotive, rail or manufacturing environments. Experience working with safety related products would be interesting and relevant as would any previous experience with robotics, computer vision, autonomous vehicles, IoT and/or Lidar.

What you’ll get in return

This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful business in its high growth phase. It has secured solid investment and has a stable base to innovate, evolve and develop. You will be a critical hire in a small and expanding team whose work will be fundamental to the progression and success of the product and its technology.

QLM have ambitious targets to ramp up its deployment of its lidar cameras. The information they collect, will in return develop the organisation into a data and analytics business. Its Software team will be fundamental in this process. Opportunity for further career development, progression and exposure to new and innovative technology is available and encouraged.

QLM can offer you a competitive basic salary and share options, with a range of other benefits. The job is available on remote/hybrid work basis, with you ideally being able to spend time in one of their locations on a monthly basis to further boost collaboration.
