Independent Chair, Bristol Temple Quarter Limited Liability Partnership (BTQ LLP)

Location: Bristol Temple Quarter, Bristol

Remuneration: Up to £30,000 per annum

Time Commitment: Approximately 2-3 days per month

About Bristol Temple Quarter LLP: Bristol Temple Quarter (BTQ) is one of the largest and most ambitious urban regeneration projects in the UK. This transformative initiative aims to convert over 135 hectares of brownfield land into a vibrant, mixed-use community. With plans to deliver around 10,000 new homes and 22,000 new jobs, BTQ is set to inject over £1.6 billion per year into the local economy. This project is a collaborative effort between Homes England, Bristol City Council, the West of England Combined Authority, and Network Rail, and it is at the cutting edge of sustainable urban development.

As the Independent Chair of Bristol Temple Quarter LLP (BTQ LLP), you will be at the helm of a transformative journey that will reshape Bristol’s landscape and economy. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on a nationally recognized programme, driving forward sustainable and inclusive growth in one of the UK’s most dynamic cities.

Role Overview: As Chair of BTQ LLP, you will lead the Board with entrepreneurial flair, overseeing its strategic direction and governance. You will play a crucial role in selecting a private sector development partner, finalizing the masterplan, and leveraging investment opportunities. Your leadership will be instrumental in embedding the newly formed LLP and ensuring it operates at the highest standards of governance and accountability.

Key Responsibilities: As Chair you will provide visionary leadership to the Board, driving the delivery of BTQ LLP’s ambitious vision, values, and strategic goals. You will ensure robust financial control and performance monitoring to secure the financial viability of BTQ LLP. Overseeing the embedding of the LLP, you will lead and challenge the Board to maintain the highest standards of governance. Offering strategic advice, counsel, and challenge to the Executive, you will hold the Chief Executive to account for performance and executive actions.

You will also build and maintain effective relationships with BTQ LLP partners and stakeholders, which will be crucial, as you leverage your networks to promote the programme and attract investment. Representing BTQ LLP at the highest levels, you will act as an ambassador to establish partnerships with local, regional, and national bodies. Your role will be pivotal in guiding the strategic direction and ensuring the successful delivery of the BTQ programme.

Person Specification:

  • Experienced Leader: Previous experience as a non-executive Chair or significant Board experience in a growth-oriented organisation.
  • Political Savvy: Ability to navigate political environments and build strong relationships with public and private sector organisations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven track record in effective stakeholder relationship management and leveraging networks for business gain.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong business acumen and commercial knowledge, particularly in housing, infrastructure, and development sectors.
  • Commitment to Diversity: A strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with experience advocating and embedding these values.
  • Excellent Communicator: A passionate and engaging public speaker with ambassadorial qualities. Ability to inspire and engage diverse audiences.
