Operations Director, Attractive Six Figure Base Salary; Performance Bonus; Car Allowance & Benefits Package, North of England

The Company

A privately-owned, project-led, engineering and manufacturing organisation that specialises in bespoke modular metal structures, for key utility and infrastructure markets. The company is ambitious for growth, and is well-positioned to grow organically over the next three to five years, to become a £100m turnover business.

Both the UK, and Europe, will be key markets for expansion, with the business having established framework contracts with key utility partners, and leading OEMs, who supply their technology to major infrastructure schemes, as well as other key NetZero and hydrogen projects.

The Role

As Operations Director, you will take full ownership of the day-to-day activities at its flagship manufacturing site. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a key leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape the future of the company’s manufacturing capability and output.

You will lead an experienced management team, with direct reports responsible for Production, Quality, Safety, Maintenance and Engineering Design. Your role will include the assessment, development and coaching of your leadership team; developing the productivity and efficiency of the operations function – introducing a continuous improvement mind-set – and new technologies to the business.

The Candidate

This is a role for an experienced and hands-on manufacturing leader, with a track record of leading a manufacturing plant of scale. With a background in driving operational excellence, ensuring quality, and fostering a culture of safety, you will be a true people developer.

You will understand how to improve a site’s safety, production and commercial performance, and will require a good appreciation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement processes. Crucially, you will be comfortable using data to measure and improve performance, and to inform your decision-making process.

Knowledge of working in a mechanical engineering manufacturing environment will be essential, and experience of a bespoke manufacturing, and project-led operation, will all be key criteria for the successful candidate. Crucially, you will be a visible leader, with high emotional intelligence, who can build relationships and influence effectively, at all levels.
