Opportunities

Group Chief Executive Officer, St Giles Hospice, Location: Whittington, Lichfield, Salary: Attractive package

St Giles Hospice is a registered charity offering specialist palliative and end of life care, free of charge, for people living with terminal illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers. Our services are rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission. We care for patients from across our catchment area, which includes Staffordshire, North Birmingham and surrounding areas. Care is offered at our hospice's centres in Whittington and Sutton Coldfield, as well as in patients' own homes across the region.

At St Giles, we are currently undertaking a significant transformation programme, backed by our Board of Trustees. The first phase of this programme will be completed during Autumn 2024, with the organisation having placed itself in a financially sustainable position. We are recruiting a new Group CEO to help drive the second phase of this programme and take the organisation towards a sustainable future for our patients, and their loved ones, our staff and volunteers.

This will require an exceptional leader; someone who is visionary, has the ability to lead and a genuine passion for local hospice care. This is a demanding and challenging role at one of the most forward-thinking hospices in the country. We have great ambition and wish to appoint a leader who shares that ambition, and has a track record of delivering transformational change in the sector.

The Candidate
  • Demonstrable track record of leadership in a complex environment, preferably in the charity, health or social care sectors
  • A proven ability in building financial sustainability; bringing a blend of strong commercial and financial acumen alongside an understanding of income generation
  • Demonstrable record of innovation leading to the development of a flexible, robust organisation, which anticipates and contributes to changes in local, regional and national policy
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to make informed decisions
  • Proven track record of successful strategic planning and execution
  • Proven track record of senior leadership in a regulated environment
  • Experience in working with or reporting to a Board of Directors and fostering strong governance relationships
