Why Berwick Partners was the right career move for me – Bonnie Amos-English

We spoke to one of our newer team members – Bonnie Amos-English, Consultant in our Regeneration, Place and Social Housing practice – about why joining Berwick made sense, and how her first few months here have confirmed it was the right career move for her.

Bonnie has had a fantastic start to her Berwick journey, placing the Director of Repairs at Westminster City Council last month; a particularly complex assignment, requiring a high level of input and advice from Bonnie. We asked her a few questions about her experience so far:

What have been some of your initial impressions of joining the Berwick team?

Everyone is extremely bright and switched on. I’ve noticed that people are very loyal to the company, with most having been here for 5+ years. This is reassuring, as a new joiner, to see the level of staff retention. The overall market and sector knowledge is also impressive; everyone is a true specialist in their field.

Your move to Berwick involved a change of sector; how have you found this, so far?

For me the move was a lateral step from supporting clients working on the design stages of a housing project, to working with companies managing those homes. It has entailed a lot of research, and speaking to internal colleagues and our connections in the industry to understand the landscape. It’s been an enjoyable experience and I’ve relished getting “stuck in” to the social housing world.

Has there been anything specific that has confirmed you made the right decision, in joining Berwick?

Odgers/Berwick has always been an aspirational company for me, so to be working here now at this point in my career is such an achievement, personally. The depth and breadth of our networks as a firm, as well as all of the holistic services we offer alongside our searches, aligns well with what I aim to provide for my clients. The golden thread through the team is this sense of wanting to do the very best we can, and I think that is an amazing culture to be part of.

Finally, what are your plans for the next 6-12 months?

More of what I’ve been doing so far – carry on building my knowledge and presence within the sector. I plan to attend the Housing Community Summit in Liverpool later this year, and I’m looking at organising a networking event, in the autumn, for Social Housing senior leaders.
