Berwick Partners’ Finance Leadership Breakfast – Wednesday 23rd January 2019
Berwick Partners was delighted to welcome Kwasi Kwarteng, MP, to our offices on Cannon Street, to speak at our Financial Leadership breakfast event.
Kwasi, MP for Spelthorne and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, spoke on the topic of ‘What next for Britain?’, in light of Brexit.
Kwasi provided valuable insight on the present challenges of the Brexit negotiations and shared his thoughts on the future ahead. He also drew upon his experiences as Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and earlier career as an analyst in financial services, to provide considered responses to questions from the audience.
Kwasi spoke positively about the benefits that the security of the proposed deal would offer both citizens and businesses.
A widely known historian and author, Kwasi did not underestimate the impact of two general elections and a referendum in three years. He highlighted the stresses a hung parliament has placed on negotiations, and was reflective on what could have been done differently. Kwasi distilled the complexity of the parliamentary arithmetic, which provided more clarity on the options ahead.
The Chatham House Rule format allowed Kwasi to directly and openly answer the challenging questions posed by the finance leaders. This was warmly welcomed by the audience, who appreciated his candour and timing.
We would like to thank Kwasi Kwarteng for generously giving his time.
