As part of a global executive search firm, interim management, and leadership advisory business operating in 32 countries, we believe we must run our business responsibly.
We believe we have a role to play in driving global corporate sustainability, and we want to share the ways in which we’re making tangible progress. A large part of these efforts are our recent commitment to, and the setting of, science-based decarbonisation targets.
As a responsible business, we have engaged Carbon Intelligence to assist us in developing a robust decarbonisation strategy. We have calculated our current, global carbon footprint across scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and have created science-based carbon targets. Our targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and, due to the clarity and thoroughness of our documentation, SBTi responded that ours was “an exemplar submission.” We are currently working internationally to reduce our carbon footprint and reach our goals.
These targets, which include office space and air travel assessment, will hold us accountable to our sustainability strategy as we continue to support clients with their own energy transition.
This strategy is comprehensive and includes both external action and internal initiatives. We have a long history of advising clients on board level environmental and sustainability appointments across all sectors, which is supported by a depth of insight and broad network. As part of this, we’ve committed to discussing sustainability with every client, encouraging them to think about the role leadership talent plays in building responsible organisations.
The same goes for those we place. We discuss sustainability with our candidates, exploring values and capabilities to ensure they are equipped to tackle this increasingly ubiquitous topic. This is critically important – we know leaders who are sustainability-minded can have a significant impact on driving sustainability within their own organisations and throughout value chains globally.
Beyond this, our leadership assessment methodologies help drive sustainable performance in organisations by measuring a leader’s competencies and motivations across a plethora of challenges, including climate change.
Leading our client-facing sustainability approach is a working group of sustainability experts.
These consultants seek to increase sustainability in their individual sectors as well as provide insights into how Odgers Berndtson can improve.
This knowledge is shared throughout our executive search business so our colleagues around the world are empowered to tackle sustainability in their functions and specialisations.
We also share this knowledge externally. Through our Sustainability Matters content, we provide current sustainability expertise and learnings for a range of sectors and geographies, helping to inform both our clients and candidates.
Finally, our internal focus also considers our operations and day-to-day working practices. Our events are being made more sustainable; from the materials we use and reduction in paper through to the venues we work with.
Achieving sustainability is an ongoing journey.
By setting measurable targets through an independent third party and embedding values and practices within our business we are committing to our sustainability journey and delivering on our responsibility to help reduce climate risk.
